Our clients typically come to us because 1) they are looking for advice on how to fine tune their minds and bodies for improved vitality, outlook, and overall health or 2) they have quite a few of the imbalances that Julia describes in her books and aren't sure where to start on their own or 3) they've been unable to find practitioners who treat the specific issues that our clinic deals with everyday.
If you live in or near the San Francisco Bay Area, you can easily get to the clinic. If you don't, you can plan a trip to beautiful Marin County where we've been counseling people from outside the Bay Area for years. We find that telephone consultations allow us to follow up quite well with our long-distance clients, but only if we've gotten to know them in person first.
START WITH AN INITIAL TELEPHONE CONSULT
Wherever you live, we suggest that you first call the clinic and listen to the recorded information about the program on "line one". Your next step would be to schedule a preliminary 30-minute phone intake appointment with one of our clinical staff members. This call will give us a good idea of what you need help with and give you a good idea of whether and how we can help. For example, many people call to inquire about whether we can help them find effective alternatives to anti-depressant drugs. We typically can, but if someone is taking more than one such drug we'll need to review the situation carefully before we recommend that they begin our program.
PROVIDING COMPREHENSIVE ASSESSMENT AND TREATMENT:
Your initial workup will take four to six hours, depending on the complexity of your situation. Many people do it in one day, but it's preferable to spread it out over two days. You'll start with the most thorough family and personal history that you have ever had. Then you'll meet with your nutritionist and possibly, with a physician as well. This will allow us to get an in-depth understanding of your current mood, food, and health issues and of all the factors that have led to them. Our staff then uses this information to make very specific nutritional, medical, counseling, and other recommendations. For example, if your depression, low energy and unneeded weight gain suggest that we should explore your thyroid function, nutritional and medical staff members will work together to provide the necessary foods, supplements, testing, examinations, and prescriptions.
Three Months to A Lasting Cure
In your first week in the program you'll be making daily progress reports by phone and receiving return calls to address any problems or questions that may arise. After that you'll have an in-person or phone appointment once a week.
Over the following 12 weeks (or longer, if needed) we'll continue working with you closely to make sure that you get the benefits you've come to us for. To make sure that you do, Julia will meet with you at least once while you are in the program, typically during your sixth week.
As your brain and body tune-up takes hold, our staff will guide you off the amino acids and other nutrient supplements you'll no longer need. By this time you'll typically have found the energy that will allow you to enjoy being more physically active and mentally focused. Most importantly, you'll have discovered the sense of emotional well-being that will allow you to successfully take on life's challenges without the need for comfort foods, other addictive substances, or pharmaceutical mood enhancers.
During this intake call we may also arrange to send you kits for lab testing or propose supplement trials that can be done while you're waiting to come in. At the end of the intake call, if you do decide to come in, you can arrange your in-person appointments. Then we'll mail you a packet of symptom questionnaires to fill out before you come in, along with directions and lodging options. Plan on spending over an hour completing the questionnaires, as they are extensive.
YOUR PSYCHO-SOCIAL-NUTRITIONAL-MEDICAL WORK-UP!
During your nutritional session, you will have a chance to actually try several amino acids so that you and your nutritionist can judge their effectiveness as your therapeutic plan of food and supplements is put together. This nutrient therapy plan should set the groundwork for a radical improvement in your overall health and the quick elimination of the cravings and negative moods that may be plaguing you.
We look forward to hearing from you!
